SoundSession'05 is New England's premier summer music festival in Rhode Island's capital city. A multi-stage, multi-genre event, the festival is produced by the Providence Black Repertory Company in collaboration with the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture & Tourism. This transcultural celebration reflects the dynamic vitality of the new "American" city. In the spirit of our organizational mission to provide cultural programming to the widest possible audience, the majority of SoundSession's programs are free and open to the public.
Our Vision
In curating this festival we picked acts the way a good DJ picks his tracks, making selections that excite, educate, surprise and inspire a crowd. It’s in the mix - in the combination of cultures and styles - that artistic excellence stands out.
The juxtaposition of a legend like Ron Carter, who attracts jazz aficionados, and underground dance floor sensations Yerba Buena, who are known to discriminating listeners, allows musicianship to be in the foreground. Truly great sound is in the mix!
