9:00 PM: Neon Soul Cabaret
The Neon Soul cabaret is a showcase of the sounds in the Pan-African musical palette. Artistic Director of The Providence Black Repertory, Donald King, curates and assists with arranging the music played by The Neon Soul Collective. The band performs an educational function in the café space by taking its audience on a weekly trans-Atlantic journey through the history of Black music. Neon Soul will be a salon, with an engaged and interested audience who believes in the mission of Black Rep and the power of Black music.

12:00 PM: WBRU Gospel Brunch
Join the Black Repertory Company and WBRU as we kick off the biggest festival of the Summer, Sound Session 2006. Starting at 12 Noon on Sunday, July 16th, the 360 fam will be broadcasting live from the Xxodus Café. Come down for a special day of gospel, comedy, hip hop and home-cooking. Start your day off with a gospel brunch featuring the Olney Street Baptist Church Mass Choir, Trinity Rhode Productions, Music One and some of New England’s best soul food. The festivities continue into the evening with “the four elements of hip hop,” an interactive event. Learn about the basics in b-boying, emceeing, deejaying and graffiti from some of the hottest local artists. Then we’ll close out the night with more hip hop, r’n’b and spoken word performances from Music One as well as “In House Freestyle” and special guest turntablist, Roc Raida of The X-Ecutioners.
