It has been eleven years since Plena Libre burst onto the music scene in Puerto Rico with a musical offering that was different, fresh, danceable, and experimental, but rooted in the traditional Plena, a 100-year-old genre. Plena Libre created a presence on the scene for itself, and have since become ambassadors of the new sounds of Puerto Rico, taking their updated blend of roots music to many parts of the world. Now the 13-member, four-time Grammy nominated, Afro-Rican extravaganza is one of the hottest tropical bands playing today. Plena Libre is best be known for its high-energy show and hard-driven native Puerto Rican folkloric rhythms, which are infused with Salsa, Jazz, other Afro-Caribbean beats, and topped with sizzling horn charts. Infused with contemporary dance floor styles such as Songo, Samba, Reggae, and Pambiche, the group's music continues to shed new light on the power of Afro-Diasporic sounds.
